The Mediterranean Sea is recognized today as the World’s most invaded marine region and the ORMEF database is a comprehensive, and robust compilation of exotic fish observations recorded all over the Mediterranean Region in more than a century (since 1896).
The ORMEF database had previously been employed for a number of scientific publications and it is now regularly updated by our team on the basis of the most recent scientific literature. Each observation included in the ORMEF database is submitted to a severe quality control and checked for geographical and taxonomic biases. ORMEF is an authoritative geo-referenced dataset to inform management strategies and policymakers in a period of rapid environmental transformation. The ORMEF database is publicly accessible for download in a permanent repository. Any request of additional data should be sent to Ernesto Azzurro or Pierluigi Strafella.
Users are welcome to: include maps and data from ORMEF in scientific publications and/or web sites for non-commercial use, given that such inserts are clearly identified as coming from ORMEF, with a backward link to the respective source page.
